The United States is relocating a Patriot air and missile defense system from Texas to the Middle East. This move comes as Washington and Israel prepare for possible heavy combat operations against Iran following the November 3 midterm elections. The system includes radar equipment, an engagement control station, missile launchers, and interceptor missiles. Its deployment aims to strengthen American defenses in the region.
US officials have also moved troops from bases they considered vulnerable to Iranian attacks. They have replenished munitions stockpiles and are preparing bomber aircraft and fighter jets for possible strikes. An additional aircraft carrier strike group and Marine Expeditionary Unit are expected to join roughly 20 US warships currently operating in the Middle East in November. Some vessels may rotate out of the area during this period.
This buildup follows an earlier decision to send the USS Theodore Roosevelt and additional Marines to the region. A US official confirmed on October 1 that these assets were being deployed to expand military options. Washington has reportedly warned several Gulf Arab countries to prepare for a short, intense military campaign against Iran after the midterms. People briefed on the conversations said the US is leaning toward strikes on Iranian infrastructure and nuclear facilities.
President Donald Trump has not made a final decision on launching another campaign, though a negotiated agreement remains a possibility. Iran has threatened to expand its retaliation if the US and Israel resume attacks. It plans to target energy infrastructure, airports, and other civilian facilities across the Persian Gulf. Two diplomatic sources said on October 15 that Tehran instructed Hezbollah to increase its readiness for a renewed conflict.
Security concerns have also risen due to US intelligence warnings. A US official confirmed on Friday that Secretary of State Marco Rubio received a memorandum warning that Iranian efforts to target Americans have intensified. The timing, scope, and final decision on any renewed military campaign remain uncertain. The Patriot system and other assets are now in place as both sides prepare for potential escalation.
