Jay-Z will perform as the headliner for the Super Bowl 61 halftime show, a role he has filled indirectly for years as the head of Roc Nation. The NFL and Apple Music announced the decision on Monday night during a broadcast of the Dallas Cowboys versus Philadelphia Eagles game.

The confirmation followed earlier reports from Puck, which cited industry sources. The official social media post featured the phrase "GOAT's out of the bag" alongside a black-and-white video of the 25-time Grammy winner holding a goat. The audio track used the opening line from his song "Public Service Announcement (Interlude)": "Allow me to reintroduce myself."

Roc Nation has partnered with the NFL to produce the halftime show since 2019. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell stated that he has witnessed the "extraordinary impact" Jay-Z has had on the production. Goodell noted that when the league first agreed to the partnership, he requested that Jay-Z perform himself whenever the moment felt right.

Super Bowl 61 is scheduled for Feb. 14 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The event will air on ESPN, ABC, and Disney+, with mobile access available through NFL+.

The headlining slot comes after the conclusion of Jay-Z's 30 Tour, which celebrated three decades since his debut album, "Reasonable Doubt." The tour included stops in Paris, London, and New York City, with the final two shows taking place at SoFi Stadium. During the tour, Shawn Carter brought out guests including his wife, Beyoncé.

In a statement on Monday, Jay-Z described the opportunity as a continuation of a journey. "From Reasonable Doubt to standing on the Super Bowl Halftime stage, this has been a journey," he said. "Thirty years of music, work, and culture on the world's biggest stage. This run continues to be a dream come true."

It is not yet clear if Beyoncé or other collaborators will appear during the performance. Oliver Schusser, Apple's vice president of music and international content, predicted fans can expect an incredible show, citing Jay-Z's profound impact on global music culture.
