Sebastian Aho scored with under ten minutes left in the third period to give the Carolina Hurricanes a 2-1 win over the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night.
The victory ended Boston's eight-game points streak and snapped a two-game win for the visitors. Jackson Blake also found the net for Raleigh, tying the score in the first period. The Hurricanes had been scoreless on all four of their power plays during the contest.
Pyotr Kochetkov made 14 saves to extend his unbeaten record to 8-0-0. The result ties former teammate Frederik Andersen for the longest season-opening winning streak by a goalie in franchise history. Jeremy Swayman stopped 28 shots for Boston.
Aho's goal came with 9:41 remaining. It followed a backhanded attempt by Boston's Matthew Poitras that hit the post near an open net. Aho now has 19 points, the team-high total for the franchise. The Hurricanes hold the best record in the league.
Carolina entered the game as the first NHL team to reach 20 points, a first-time accomplishment for the club. The team was in its first home game in two weeks after a 3-1-1 road trip. The Bruins had Pavel Zacha score on a power play 1:31 into the game.
Both teams play again on Thursday. Boston visits St. Louis while Raleigh hosts Columbus.
