The Los Angeles Rams defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 24-9 on Sunday, ending a first-half offensive drought that left them without a single first down until the final minutes of the second quarter. The victory gave the Rams their second win of the season and their first back-to-back victories, improving their record to 4-4. The Chargers, who returned from a bye week, fell to 0-7, extending their worst season start since 2000.

The game began with both teams struggling to move the ball. The Rams gained only 24 yards on their first 15 plays and failed to convert a first down on their first five drives. This marked the first time in coach Sean McVay’s career that his team went without a first down on its first five possessions. Quentin Lake provided the early spark for the Rams by intercepting a short pass from Justin Herbert and returning it 45 yards, setting up a field goal. The Rams led 3-0 before the Chargers responded.

The Chargers' offense, led by Mike McDaniel, managed 295 yards but remained inefficient. Herbert passed for 257 yards and threw two interceptions. McDaniel called two successful flea-flickers to help the Bolts drive for a second field goal in the second quarter. Despite the yardage, the defense could not hold the lead as the Rams began to gain momentum late in the half. The Rams trailed by six points when they finally secured their first first down on a 40-yard completion to Tutu Atwell. Kyren Williams then rushed for a touchdown with 19 seconds left in the first half, cutting the lead to 9-7.

The Rams controlled the second half with three consecutive touchdown drives. Blake Corum, who finished with 73 rushing yards, scored on a 23-yard run to give the Rams the lead. Later in the third quarter, Puka Nacua caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Matthew Stafford to extend the advantage. Nacua finished the game with 11 receptions for 80 yards and a score. Stafford completed passes for 157 yards and a touchdown, leading the offense in the absence of injured Davante Adams.

Injuries affected both rosters during the contest. Chargers linebacker Daiyan Henley hurt his shoulder in the first quarter but returned to the field. Safety Derwin James, dealing with a hamstring issue, missed his fourth consecutive game and was placed on injured reserve on Saturday. For the Rams, cornerback Jaylen Watson left the game early in the second half with a shoulder injury and did not return. Safety Trent McDuffie, returning from a two-game absence with a groin injury, hurt his back in the second half but remained on the sideline wearing his helmet during the final plays.

The Chargers will host the Houston Texans on Sunday. The Rams will travel to Washington for their next game on Sunday.
