Lionel Messi will return to Gillette Stadium in Foxborough on Sunday, Nov. 1, to face the New England Revolution. The game, scheduled for 7:00 p.m., serves a dual purpose. It is the final home regular-season match for the Revolution before the MLS playoffs. It may also be the last time Messi plays in the state after his recent departure from the Argentine national team.

Messi, 39, announced his retirement from international football on Aug. 31. He played his final match for Argentina against Benin in Buenos Aires on Oct. 6. This timing makes the upcoming contest against New England a notable event for local fans who have seen him play in the area before.

The stadium has a history of large crowds for Messi's visits. In April 2024, 65,612 spectators watched him score two goals in a 4-1 win for Inter Miami. That attendance set a new record for the club. The current matchup pits two top contenders from the Eastern Conference against each other.

As of Oct. 17, Inter Miami held the second spot in the East with 55 points. The Revolution sat third with 52 points. The New England team returned to the playoffs for the first time since 2023 in mid-October. The standings may shift before the match, as the Revolution play the Philadelphia Union on Saturday.

The two teams met earlier this year in April. That match in Miami ended in a 1-1 draw. Carles Gil scored for New England, while Germán Berterame equalized for Inter Miami. Messi remains a central figure for his club in the MLS, with 25 goals and 14 assists in 27 games this season.

Messi's contract with Inter Miami runs through the end of the 2028 season. The squad also includes his compatriot Rodrigo de Paul and Brazilian Casemiro. Casemiro will visit Foxborough for the first time since joining MLS. Team rosters for the Sunday match will be released closer to kickoff time.
