Caleb Wilson took the field in Philadelphia on Monday with the weight of a new identity.

The 20-year-old forward scored 24 points in a 126-107 defeat by the 76ers. He also recorded a team-high performance in a game where the Bulls dropped to a 1-6 record.

LeBron James played his 24th season in the NBA during this contest. The veteran forward finished with 15 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds for Philadelphia.

Wilson addressed the media in Boston the previous week following a loss there. He described his personal standard for competition in direct terms. "I’m 20 and I’ve never been a loser in my whole life so I’m going to try my best to make sure that doesn’t happen," Wilson said.

He continued by stating that he does not accept being a loser. He identified his role as a leader on the team and said the process starts with him. Wilson acknowledged that he takes ownership for the team's recent start. He noted that it does not matter if he is the youngest player on the roster.

On Monday, Wilson told reporters that his actions do not feel typical to him. He reiterated that he is not doing anything typical. This comment followed his second consecutive game leading the Bulls in scoring.

Tiago Splitter, the head coach of the Chicago Bulls, has known James for 12 years. Splitter competed against James in two NBA Finals while playing for the San Antonio Spurs. He now faces the challenge of strategizing against James as a coach.

Splitter described James as unbelievable to watch at this level of competition. He noted that he and James are the same age. Splitter observed that James relies heavily on court intelligence rather than explosive athleticism. The 41-year-old veteran uses his basketball IQ to manipulate the court.

Splitter addressed the dynamic of a rookie speaking so openly about leadership. He said he does not view Wilson's comments as an attempt to take over the team. The coach believes Wilson has high expectations for himself and for his teammates.

Splitter stated that he likes players to be humble and aware of their position. However, he recognized that Wilson is genuine in his speech. He explained that the NBA creates different timelines for young and veteran players. This makes it nearly impossible for everyone to operate on the same schedule.
