The Atlanta Dream will host the Golden State Valkyries for Game 6 of the 2026 WNBA Finals on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The midday start time places the championship-clinching game in direct competition with the NBA, as the Atlanta Hawks are scheduled to play the Cleveland Cavaliers at 8 p.m. EST at the same venue.

The scheduling conflict stems from a venue change made earlier this month. The Dream’s regular season home, the 5,000-seat Gateway Center Arena, was deemed insufficient for final attendance. On October 13, the WNBA announced that Games 3 and 4 would move to State Farm Arena, which seats nearly 17,000 fans and serves as the home of the Hawks. When the series reached Game 6, the league chose to keep the Hawks on their regular schedule rather than moving their game.

The 12:30 p.m. start time has generated widespread criticism from basketball figures. Chiney Ogwumike, an ESPN basketball analyst and former player, stated that the players and fans deserved a primetime slot. Ogwumike described the last-minute handling of the schedule as an epic fail. Social media reaction has also been sharp, with one viral TikTok post calling the timing quite literally insane.

The Dream’s owners have directed the blame toward the league. In an open letter to Atlanta released this week, the team stated that they raised the concern months in advance. The letter noted that their concerns did not receive the attention or urgency that they deserved. The WNBA has not issued a public response to the criticism.

Despite the unconventional start time, the game is sold out. The series has drawn record television audiences, with Game 4 becoming the most-watched WNBA Finals game in history with nearly 2 million viewers. The Golden State Valkyries currently lead the best-of-seven series 3-2. A win on Thursday would secure the franchise’s first championship in its two-year history.

The game will air at 9:30 a.m. Pacific Standard Time for West Coast viewers. Valkyries players have joked with fans about calling out of work to watch the afternoon tip-off. The outcome of the series will be decided in the midday slot at State Farm Arena.
