Shoppers looking to buy an engagement ring online now have a wide range of price points and styles to consider, with retailers actively competing for year-round buyers. The tradition of purchasing a ring in a physical store has given way to digital shopping, where consumers can compare designs, check inventory, and review return policies from home. This shift is driven by a desire for convenience and the ability to customize pieces without visiting a boutique.

Quince positions itself in this market by keeping prices low through a factory-direct model. The company cuts out supply-chain middlemen to reduce costs. As a result, their lab-grown diamond engagement rings range from $900 to $5,000. This price bracket sits well below the costs often associated with natural diamonds at major jewelry houses. The retailer offers financing and a generous return policy to further lower the barrier to entry for buyers.

Kylie Bee, the Merchandise Lead of Fine Jewelry at Quince, stated that all engagement rings can be returned or exchanged within 60 days. She added that the company offers a limited lifetime warranty for peace of mind. Bee also provided advice on selecting the right ring size for online purchases. She recommended buying an inexpensive ring sizer tool or printing a ring size chart. For those who need to be discreet, she suggested borrowing a ring the partner already wears, ideally from the left or right ring finger or middle finger.

Bee advised customers to place the borrowed ring on paper and trace the inside with a pencil to measure the diameter. She noted that buyers should select a style that is easily sizable up or down by a full or half size. A representative can confirm if a specific style is sizable and by how much. Bee also recommended consulting trusted friends and family to learn about the partner’s preferred diamond shape, carat weight, and metal color. Understanding whether the partner prefers natural or lab-grown diamonds helps balance personal taste with budget constraints.

Other online retailers offer different value propositions for the growing market. Blue Nile advertises the widest selection of engagement rings online, with a focus on quality and competitive pricing. All their diamonds are ethically sourced, and rings arrive in a deluxe presentation box that includes an appraisal certificate and diamond grading report. The retailer offers financing, free engraving, and a lifetime warranty. Their best-selling Riviera Pavé Diamond Engagement Ring is available in 14k and 18k gold as well as platinum.

Angara specializes in made-to-order natural and lab-grown gemstone engagement styles. Their collection includes sapphires, emeralds, and rubies alongside classic diamonds. Prices for these personalized pieces range from a few hundred dollars to over $100,000. Angara provides 24/7 customer assistance to help clients create their dream ring. In contrast, Plum Diamonds is a women-owned business that works exclusively with lab-grown diamonds. They argue that these stones offer better value and are more eco-friendly. Rings are crafted from scratch in 15 to 17 business days, with free resizing and polishing for life.

Jean Dousset targets the luxury segment with its new Claire Collection. The collection features center stones that appear to float due to the brand’s thinnest prongs yet. The design is most evident with colorless diamonds set in platinum or 18k white gold. Jean Dousset is the great-great-grandson of Louis Cartier and promises an ultra-luxe experience both online and in their West Hollywood boutique. Mejuri offers handcrafted pieces from solid gold, sterling silver, and diamonds, avoiding brass or steel. Their customization options are limited to metal colors and engraving.

Catbird’s debut line of engagement rings, The Swans, is described by the brand as elegantly modern with classic lines. The rings are hand-finished in their Williamsburg, Brooklyn studio using 100 percent recycled solid 14k gold or platinum. Financing is available, and the company offers two-day delivery and 10-day returns or exchanges. Customers can also schedule complimentary virtual or in-person appointments to select a piece. Vrai uses lab-grown diamonds crafted from greenhouse gas crystallized in their American foundry using zero-emission river energy. This process removes heat-reflecting gas from the atmosphere. MiaDonna offers premium lab-grown diamonds with complimentary engraving, financing, and a 90-day complimentary ring resizing policy.
