OnePlus has begun pushing stable Android 17 to the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus Pad 4 in India. This initial release is the first to replace OxygenOS with ColorOS, effectively ending the long-standing software brand for these specific models.
The update had been available in beta for several months. The shift to a stable release makes the new interface accessible to the general public rather than just testers. The change follows a strategic pivot where OnePlus decided to phase out OxygenOS in favor of Oppo's ColorOS after scaling back its global operations.
The rollout started on October 23, which is earlier than the company's original schedule. OnePlus had planned to begin these first updates on October 29. This means the stable software is reaching users roughly one week ahead of the announced timeline.
In promoting the update, the company emphasized its AI features. OnePlus stated that ColorOS 17 brings smarter experiences and smoother interactions. The firm described its goal as helping users flow with AI and move between tasks with less friction. The messaging suggests a move toward a system that adapts to user behavior rather than requiring manual configuration.
Only the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus Pad 4 are part of this first wave. Other devices, including previous flagship models and the Nord series, have been confirmed to receive the update later. The next scheduled phase is set for October 30 and will include the OnePlus 13.
The software is expected to reach other regions in the coming days, though specific dates have not been confirmed beyond the India launch and the October 30 follow-up. The timing of the early release comes after a period of transition for the brand, during which the OnePlus 15 and other models sold out in the United States following the reduction of its global operations.
The company has also recently unveiled the OnePlus 16, which features a 9,000 mAh battery. As the software update expands, the OnePlus 15 and Pad 4 will serve as the primary platforms for the new ColorOS 17 experience in the Indian market.
