Two NYPD officers shot a man who had pointed a handgun at customers inside a Bronx deli.
The incident occurred on Monday, November 3, at Sammy Gourmet Deli on Bainbridge Avenue and East 194th Street.
Detectives stated that Victor Soto, 49, was arguing with several people inside the shop around 3:20 p.m.
Surveillance cameras captured the event inside and outside the building.
Police reported that Soto had been harassing individuals prior to the shooting.
He then exited the deli and walked northbound with the gun.
Detectives said Soto slammed the weapon into a glass window before two officers arrived on the scene.
The officers asked Soto to drop the gun, but he pointed it at them instead.
An exchange of gunfire followed as Soto continued moving north in front of civilians.
Officers struck him during the exchange, and a firearm was recovered at the scene.
Soto was transported to the hospital and listed in stable condition.
The responding officers were also taken to the hospital for evaluation, though no officer was struck during the incident, according to police sources at 5:23 p.m. that evening. Body cameras from the officers also recorded the encounter. Detectives noted that Soto had eight prior arrests, including several for criminal possession of a firearm.
