Miro Heiskanen logged 29 minutes and 20 seconds of ice time on Thursday night. It was the most time any Dallas Stars player spent on the ice. Thomas Harley followed close behind with 28 minutes and 27 seconds. The next most active defenseman, Lian Bichsel, played only 17 minutes and 47 seconds.

The Stars relied heavily on those two veterans to neutralize the Winnipeg Jets. The effort paid off at 3:47 of overtime. Jason Robertson blocked a Winnipeg shot. Heiskanen immediately picked up the puck and sent Roope Hintz on a breakaway. Hintz scored the winning goal to give Dallas a 3-2 win at American Airlines Center.

The sequence began with a mistake. Heika reported that a turnover by Robertson created the initial Winnipeg chance. Robertson then erased that mistake with his block. Heiskanen converted the defensive stop into an offensive opportunity. His pass changed the momentum of the possession in a split second.

Dallas played from behind for much of the game. Kyle Johnston scored early in the second period for the Jets. Gabriel Vilardi and Kyle Connor later extended Winnipeg’s lead. The Stars trailed until Hintz scored a six-on-five power play goal with two minutes remaining in regulation to tie the score.

The box score told a different story about control. The Stars outshot the Jets 38-19. Connor Hellebuyert made 35 saves to keep Winnipeg in the contest. Despite the volume, Dallas struggled to convert chances until the final minutes. The defense limited Winnipeg’s opportunities but could not guarantee goals at the other end.

Heiskanen finished the night with five shots on goal, one blocked shot, and the winning assist. Harley did not score a goal. Neither defenseman needed a point to justify their extensive minutes. The team won based on a single decisive finish.

Esa Lindell sat out the game. The team did not announce a return date or a new rotation. The current defensive pairing arrangement remains unchanged for now. The Stars will address workload distribution in future games.
