Criminal Minds: Evolution will air 10 episodes in its final season, which is set to premiere in 2027. This 20th season marks the end of the franchise’s run after two decades of storytelling.
Showrunner Erica Messer confirmed the series is wrapping up after 15 seasons on CBS and five on Paramount+. The streaming platform adopted the Evolution subtitle when it revived the show a year after CBS canceled it following season 15.
The format has shifted since the move to streaming. Seasons now feature serialized story arcs that span all 10 episodes, a change from the 22-episode structure used during the CBS run. The original series aired more than 300 episodes between 2005 and 2020.
The franchise previously included two spinoffs. Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior ran for one season, while Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders lasted two seasons. The main series continues with a core cast that includes Joe Mantegna, A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Aisha Tyler, RJ Hatanaka, Adam Rodriguez, and Paget Brewster.
Hatanaka joined the cast during the first Paramount+ season, which was the 16th season for the franchise overall. The other regulars have been present for at least several years of the CBS run. Messer noted that the team is looking forward to sharing the final season with fans and celebrating the show's legacy.
20th Television and CBS Studios produce the series. In addition to Messer, executive producers include Breen Frazier, Chris Barbour, Glenn Kershaw, Stacey Hardt, and Mark Gordon.
