Police arrested a man on Saturday night after a scuffle with security staff at a rally in Tel Aviv.
The suspect, a 23-year-old resident of Givatayim, allegedly shoved a bodyguard protecting Naftali Bennett. Bennett, the former prime minister and chairman of the B'Yachad party, was speaking at an event demanding a commission of inquiry into the October 7 attacks. Sources described the man as being under the influence of alcohol.
Witnesses said the man shouted “Only Bibi,” a slogan supporting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, while attempting to move closer to Bennett. Security personnel tried to block his path, but he continued to push forward. When one guard pushed him back, the man turned and shoved the officer in return.
The security team restrained the suspect at the scene while awaiting police. Officers arrived at the park, took the man into custody, and transported him to a police station for questioning. An initial check found that he had no prior criminal record.
Bennett served as Israel’s prime minister from June 2021 to June 2022. The incident occurred just days before the 2026 Knesset elections, during which IDF soldiers began voting at military polling stations earlier this week.
